:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Very Positive First Impression : I have a fondness for D&D’s Ravenloft setting and also enjoy Napoleonic tabletop gaming using Warlord Games’ Black Powder rules. I was excited for the release of The Silver Bayonet as a crossover into both of those realms. It’s a rather lightweight rule set which is a strength in my opinion as I’m hoping to entice some of my RPG friends to give The Silver Bayonet a try. The book contains ten competitive scenarios and four solo scenarios, along with suggestions on how to craft your own. The bestiary chapter should help spark a few ideas for custom scenarios. Each player starts by selecting a nation: Austria, Britain, France, Prussia, Russia, or Spain. Your choice of nation impacts the type of soldiers you can recruit. There is a lot of overlap in available soldier types, but some are only available by default for certain nations. There is an option to recruit outside of your nation’s list, but it costs a lot more. Each unit is led by an officer who can be customized through a combination of stat boosts, equipment selection, and attributes (i.e. special abilities). This officer has a number of recruitment points to spend on the various soldier types. The soldier list includes: Artillerist, Champion of Faith, Dhamphir, Doctor, Grenadier, Guard, Heavy Cavalryman, Highlander, Infantryman, Irregular, Junior Officer, Light Cavalryman, Marine, Native Scout, Occultist, Rifleman, Sailor, Sapper, Supernatural Investigator, Swordsman, Tactician, Veteran Hunter, Vivandierie, and Werebear. As you can see from the list, some soldiers are part of the supernatural realm themselves. Many of these professions are plucked straight out of the Napoleonic era and add a lot of period flavor to the game. Turns are split into a number of phases: initiative, primary player phase I, monster phase, secondary player phase, and primary player phase II. Rules for figure activation, movement, melee, shooting, cavalry movement, and other miscellaneous actions are clearly explained. I thought the rules were concise, but with enough detail to be interesting. I hope to recruit a unit and play my first game soon. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2021 )

- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Agent Pumpkin -- Not just Sharpe with Werewolves! : Well Joseph A. McCullough does it again. A good solid skirmish game that fast and fun. This time a chilling mix of Napoleonic's and Horror. Our group love this game. It gives us something else to do with our old Horse 'n Musket figures that isn't just a smaller Naps game. It also isn't "just Frostgrave but with Black Powder" its a very fine and entertaining game. There are now some great online videos of people playing it for a better idea of what's what. - 5.0 out of 5 stars from Paul Thomason -- An excellent game : Wondered how Sharpe would handle fighting vampires instead of just the french? if yes then this may be the game for you! create your captain and his band of fighters to go up against goblins, werewolves, and other such mythical creatures the game has a solo mode so you can pick a nation and play through missions or find a like minded individual and pick two nations play co-op or vs, you will of course need the basics of any skirmish Wargame, dice (D10's in this case) measuring tools and terrain as well as of course the models if you like metal models north star figures produce a range of British, french, Spanish, Prussian, Austrian and Russian models (currently) i have the British and Spanish currently and personally think there excellent ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 10, 2022 )
